Abstract

The objective of the research is to interpret the concept of life and death worthy of the sentient being, under the light of the Brazilian legal system, related to the existence of sentience in non-human animals and the concern for animal welfare, bringing comparisons of the Dignity of the Person Human associated with the Dignity of Being Sentient in the 21st century. The research addressed issues of animal rights in Brazil and internationally, bringing international references on the protection of the quality of life of non-human animals. The investigation of the theme proposed in this work is an approach in the strict sense, prioritizing the hermeneutic method and bibliographical research. The following questions were raised, does the current legal system effectively protect animals? In relation to other countries, how is the Brazilian legal system classified? What is man's role in relation to the environment and the protection of Animal Rights?
