Abstract

For decades, many policies for the tourism sector have been developed in Brazil. Among some particularities, the focus of many of them was on developing the sector regionally. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the tourism sector in the Vales do Iguaçu Tourist Region, located in the state of Paraná, considering its locational, structural and spatial dynamics, during the period between 2012 and 2021. Therefore, the procedure methodological approach was based on regional analysis indicators. In general, the results obtained demonstrated that, after a period of ten years, the sector in the region analyzed continued to be concentrated in a few municipalities, thus not being noticed any effects of boost, spillover to neighboring municipalities or even connection between the activities analyzed. In practice, the results can help local decision-makers and other interested parties to first gain knowledge about the scenario and, therefore, act more assertively when it comes to planning and expanding the tourism sector in the region in the coming years.
