This article discusses the rise in HIV/AIDS cases among young Brazilians between 2009 and 2018, looking at the incidence by region of the country, as well as gender and sexuality issues, among other relevant markers, which reveal the vulnerabilities to be considered in government prevention actions to tackle the epidemic at the beginning of its fifth decennary of existence. The methodological paths for construct the text stand out: contextualization of the Brazilian panorama, institutional information, a comparative perspective, a qualitative approach, and a critical view of the political scenario whose conservatism has reverberated in HIV prevention programs and campaigns in Brazil.
Key words: health; sexualities; inequality.
