Depression in patients with decompensated heart failure

Objective: To show the prevalence of depression in patients with decompensated heart. Method: This is an observational, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach. A total of 133 patients diagnosed with decompensated cardiac behavior were treated using the Beck Depression Inventory, obtaining sociodemographic data through interviews and personal medical records. For the quantitative analysis of variables between depression scores and sociodemographic factors, Pearson's chi-square test was used. Results: The study showed that most symptoms scored for minimal depression (42.1%) and when comparing the level of depression with sociodemographic and clinical variables, there was significance with economic status (p=0.002), presence of comorbidities, (p=0.036) and previous diagnosis of depression (p=0.032). Conclusion: Data on depressive symptoms were found in patients who did not have a previous diagnosis of depression, driving the need for early detection and the implementation of screening tools for the disease in patients with heart disease.
