This descriptive and observational study, based on documentary analysis, aimed to investigate the sanctions applied by the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) and the Public Prosecutor's Office of the State of Goiás (MP-GO) to players involved in match-fixing associated with online sports betting. Punishments applied to 22 athletes were identified, including five permanent bans, seven suspensions for 360 days, four for 600 days, five for 720 days and one player released upon payment of a fine. The fines applied ranged from R$5,000.00 to R$100,000.00. The results show that Operation Maximum Penalty represents a significant milestone in the fight against sports corruption in Brazil, consolidating relevant institutional advances in confronting illicit practices in sports betting.
