Science communication aims to make scientific knowledge understandable to broad audiences, using accessible language across diverse channels. Communication from environmental institutions, through scientific dissemination strategies, can promote environmental education. This study aimed to analyze the Instagram posts of three state environmental agencies: the Henrique Luis Roessler State Environmental Protection Foundation (FEPAM) of Rio Grande do Sul, the Water and Land Institute (IAT) of Paraná, and the Institute of Environment and Water Resources (INEMA) of Bahia. Through Content Analysis, all posts from 2024 were analyzed regarding language, messages, and formats. A total of 135 posts were identified on the FEPAM profile, 278 on the IAT profile, and 300 on the INEMA profile. A general prevalence of accessible language was observed, although there was a greater presence of technical terms in FEPAM's posts. Regarding formats, the carousel format predominated. Across all three profiles, posts reinforcing the institutional image, with content about events and activities, and also related to management actions and transparency were most frequent. Content associated with scientific dissemination and environmental education appeared in third place, with INEMA standing out significantly. These and other results indicate the need to expand dissemination focused on environmental awareness, using attractive language and formats, to strengthen the fulfillment of the social role of the environmental agencies studied.
