The Handmaid’s tale and women's representativity

Abstract

Currently, the rate of women elected in Brazilian politics is very low. Thus, it is necessary that more women are elected, to give voice to female representation, so that there is indeed a gender representation. Currently, women's law is underrepresented, since the vast majority of legislatures are dominated by men. And it is possible in this respect to identify where patriarchy, with female subjugation, faces the question of what is the role of women politically, to change the reality of women in face of the role of women in the work O Conto da Aia. The purpose of this article is to analyze the role of women in Brazilian politics, as well as to verify the importance of feminism as a transformative and struggling movement for women, describing how feminism exists to prevent the nullity of women's rights. For the accomplishment of this article, the deductive approach method was used, with bibliographic research, doctrinal review, search for scientific articles, as well as the analysis of Brazilian legislation, applied to the real role of women in Brazilian politics. Thus, it is concluded that women occupy less positions of power than men, the root of this problem is found in the patriarchal system, which has always placed women in a lower level than men with sexist ideas.
